Meeting with Lukashenko’s participation discussing preparations for Belarusian People’s Congress

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has convened a meeting focusing on preparations for the first meeting of the seventh Belarusian People’s Congress, attended by the leadership of the Government, both chambers of Parliament, the President Administration, the Central Election Commission, and the Minsk City Executive Committee

There’s a week left before the most important political event in the country’s life, and preparations for it have entered the final lap.

“We will discuss those organisational issues that need to be tackled in order to ensure the effective work of the Belarusian People’s Congress. The organising committee has been set up. As I’m constantly reported, they gathered, worked, and developed basic documents. However, there are a number of issues dealing with the permanent presidium and deputy chairs (we should consult on how we will propose the Belarusian People’s Congress to form them). In a word, it is necessary to ensure a normal, controllable working process of the Belarusian People’s Congress: starting from the design of the city (without unnecessary extras) to the assembly hall. I have talked to many of those who are directly involved in this. Today I’d like to hear your suggestions and questions,” the Head of State noted.

“Once again I would like to ask that there must be the most attentive attitude towards the Belarusian People’s Congress delegates: from food and accommodation to the provision of the necessary materials for work. What has been done in this regard? What remains to be done?” Aleksandr Lukashenko wondered.

The first meeting of the seventh Belarusian People’s Congress in a new constitutional status will be held in Minsk on April 24th-25th. The new Constitution of the Republic of Belarus – adopted at a nationwide referendum on February 27th, 2022 – was supplemented by a chapter that defines the Belarusian People’s Congress as the highest representative body of people’s power, which will determine the strategic directions for the development of society and the state and ensure the inviolability of the constitutional system, the continuity of generations and civil harmony.
