School standard on the way

A new academic year is in full swing and, while pupils are getting used to the educational process, their parents and teachers are in expectation of an important document – the state school standard – which is assumed to affect many aspects, including lesson organisation and school etiquette

The Education Ministry specialists believe, to develop the standard, it’s now important to systematise certain regulations and clearly set the responsibility of all participants of the educational process, including parents.

“We should understand what result we want to get when pupils graduate from a school, gymnasium or lyceum since all efforts of the education system are directed at their training. Our society is in need of thoughtful citizens, with well-formed philosophy – true patriots of the country,” Vladimir Zdanovich, the Head of the Main Department of Personnel Policy and Organisational-Analytical Work at the Education Ministry, asserts.

The new document will be based on the regulatory acts, including the Code of Education, the law ‘On Responsibility of Educational Process Participants’, the rules of pedagogical ethics, and others. Its content is now being prepared but some key areas have already been identified. These are for example, the rights and obligations of pupils, teachers and parents, the organisation of school life, and pedagogical planning.

Specialists of the Education Ministry, the Republican Institute of Higher School, the Academy of Postgraduate Education and the National Institute of Education will join representatives of the public and teachers to finalise the school standard.

As planned, the draft document will be submitted for discussion in 2022.
