Putin officially took office as President of Russia on May 7th

A solemn ceremony of inaugurating Vladimir Putin as the President of the Russian Federation took place in the Kremlin on May 7th, TASS reports

It is noted that the flag bearers of the honour guard company of the Presidential Regiment brought the national flag of Russia and the standard of the Russian President (depicting a double-headed eagle against a tricolour background) to the Andreevsky Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace. Then the Presidential Regiment military brought the badge of the President of Russia and a special ‘inaugural’ copy of the Russian Constitution from the Vladimirsky Hall.

Representatives of the executive, legislative, judicial branches of government, the Government of Russia, the Federation Council, the State Duma, the Presidential Administration, and Russians governors have gathered in the Kremlin to observe the inauguration. Representatives of major faiths, holders of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of public organisations, business circles, generals, scientists, culture, sports, and journalists have been also invited to the Kremlin. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian leader, said that about 2,600 people are present at the inauguration ceremony in the Kremlin today.

Vladimir Putin is taking office as President of Russia for the fifth time. The Presidential election took place in Russia from March 15th-17th, 2024. According to Russia’s CEC, after 100 percent of ballots processed, Putin received 87.28 percent of the votes. The turnout in the 2024 Presidential election set a record of 87.1 million, or 77.44 percent of eligible voters.
