Foreign ministries of Belarus, Russia discussed mutual support in elections to UN bodies

The foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia have discussed mutual support in the elections to the UN bodies, according to a statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry after the meeting on May 7th between Irina Velichko, the Head of the Main Department of Multilateral Diplomacy of Belarus’ Foreign Ministry, and Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, sb.by reports

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the parties touched upon a wide range of topical issues on the international agenda, as well as ways to strengthen co-operation between the two countries at relevant UN venues and within the OSCE humanitarian dimension.

“Considerable attention was paid to the further development of interaction as part of the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter. Mutual support in elections to UN bodies of limited composition, including the UN Human Rights Council, was also discussed,” the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
