As informed by the Swiss authorities, ‘the gas industry will again need to create a gas reserve in case of a possible shortage in the winter of 2023-2024’. In this regard, the Federal Council extended the document on ‘guaranteeing gas supply capacities’ for 12 months.

The country’s government recalled that ‘Switzerland imports almost all the gas it consumes’ without having ‘seasonal storage facilities’ on its territory. There is a Swiss reserve of 6 TWh in storage facilities abroad, which corresponds to about 15 percent of the annual consumption of natural gas in the country.
