Lukashenko arrived to Russia on working visit

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has gone on a working visit to the Russian Federation, BelTA reports

On May 8th, the Head of State will take part in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow. This will be a jubilee summit, since ten years have passed since the signing of the EAEU Treaty in May. The event will be held in a narrow and expanded format, and Aleksandr Lukashenko is expected to outline Belarus' position on the main issues on the agenda in his speech, also speaking about the prospects for further development of Eurasian integration. 

It is planned that the heads of state will discuss the implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council dated December 11th, 2020 On Strategic Directions for Developing the Eurasian Economic Integration Until 2025, as well as the implementation of the main directions of international activity of the EAEU. The agenda of the meeting includes issues on the beginning of negotiations with Mongolia on the conclusion of a temporary trade agreement between the EAEU and its member states on the one hand and Mongolia on the other hand, on amendments to the rules of procedure of the Eurasian Economic Commission, on the provision of information in accordance with the protocol on common principles and rules for regulating the activities of natural monopolies. In addition, it is planned to discuss the signing of a protocol on electronic information exchange between the EAEU and its member states on the one hand and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on the other within the framework of an electronic system of certification and verification of the origin of goods.

The EAEU members are Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia. The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council will also be attended by the leaders of Uzbekistan and Cuba, which are observer countries at the EAEU.

In the morning of May 9th, Aleksandr Lukashenko, along with other invited leaders, will attend a military parade on Red Square in commemoration of the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The President of Belarus will also take part in a flower-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Earlier, Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that the heads of eight states are expected to attend the parade in Moscow. In addition to Aleksandr Lukashenko, there will the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Cuba, Laos, and Guinea-Bissau.
