“How many of these vehicles do you need?” Aleksandr Lukashenko asked Inessa Korotkevich, who heads the Belarusian Republican Union of Consumer Societies (Belkoopsoyuz).

“118 units for this year,” she replied.

The President instructed to make an accurate calculation of all costs, including fuel, and discuss this issue in more detail after May 9th with the participation of the governors.

The Kupava travelling shop is manufactured by the Minsk Automobile Works (MAZ). According to Inessa Korotkevich, the consumer co-operation society has already purchased 86 such vehicles in two years. In total, the Belkoopsoyuz needs to acquire 414 travelling shops within a few years. One such vehicle costs about Br225,000, being able to transport up to 5.5 tonnes of goods.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also talked to Lyudmila, who works as a travelling shop seller, thanking her for the work, “Thank you for serving people. It’s not an easy job, but it’s rewarding. People are very grateful when you come, right? Moreover, there’re all the same goods here as in the store, only in smaller quantities. But you probably don’t need more?”

“I don’t need more. It’s a very good vehicle: comfortable and spacious. There are many refrigerators and a freezer. I’m completely pleased,” Lyudmila replied.

Nevertheless, the President demanded not to forget about the current fleet and to restore old vehicles, “It will be twice as cheap as buying a new vehicle.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko reminded about the need for high-quality services for the rural population and residents of remote territories back on February 16th during a general meeting of Belkoopsoyuz members. At that time, the Head of State also touched upon the work of travelling shops, “You must promote domestic goods to the regions, especially to the depth of the country. Everyone will benefit from this. However, it’s necessary to first evaluate the prospects carefully. If it is justified, put a vehicle on the route with a normal work schedule. Villagers should get a high-quality replacement for a stationary store.”
