Large-scale Labour Day celebrations held in Minsk’s Pobedy Park

Honouring of labour dynasties, demonstration of achievements of various regions and sectors of the country’s economy, presentation of professions on interactive platforms and a festive concert have been organised by the Belarusian trade unions together with social partners for citizens and guests of the capital. May 1st is one of the most important holidays for trade unions, while its main point is to thank each person for their honest work and the contribution they make into Belarus’ overall development.

The festive May Day events, which began with laying flowers at the Minsk – Hero City Memorial, moved to Pobedy Park, which was especially crowded today, bringing together representatives of labour teams, state bodies, labour veterans, as well as a huge number of children and youth. Opening the May Day celebrations, Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration of Belarus Vladimir Pertsov noted, “Dear Minsk residents and guests of our beautiful capital! Let me congratulate you on the holiday of May 1st, on the holiday of labour, on the holiday of working people! I want to wish you the same colourful and festive emotions as today’s sunny day. I congratulate the people of labour who create material benefits and develop the economic independence of our country. I wish you a good rest.”

Vladimir Pertsov also announced the welcome address from the President of Belarus, which was met with applause.

The 300th anniversary concert of the national patriotic action – We are Together for Belarus! – continued today’s festive events. According to the press service of Belarus’ Federation of Trade Unions, this action has been organised since 2015 – aiming primarily at uniting and rallying Belarusians, in order to once again underlined the importance of the country’s best labour traditions. During this time, the campaign has visited all corners of Belarus. Trade unions – together with social partners – honoured thousands of the best workers and dozens of labour dynasties. The holding of an action as part of the May Day celebrations became a logical continuation.

During today’s anniversary concert, labour dynasties from all regions of Belarus have been honoured. They represent different industries, but they have one thing in common: their families pass on love and dedication to work from generation to generation.

The press service of the Federation of Trade Unions underlined that traditional festive May Day events are very popular among Belarusians. For example, last year over 20,000 people took part in them in Minsk alone.

As is traditional, festive events have taken place today countrywide.
