Chairman of Belarus’ Federation of Trade Unions: tradition of Labour Day celebrating is 120 years old

May Day has been celebrated for around 120 years – as noted by Yuri Senko, the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, in his talk with journalists who gathered in Minsk’s Victory Park for annual Labour Day of May 1st

“The trade union movement is turning 120 this year,” Mr. Senko said. “Of course, over this time, the trade unions of Belarus have accumulated many wonderful traditions – such as, for example, May Day festive, friendly and organised celebrations. As we can see by the number of participants, many young people, specialists of various levels, including respected veterans who once developed production, have gathered here. The facilities they represent have reached a good level, and products of our enterprises enjoy demand at many sites. We are proud that Belarus has the opportunity to honour our veterans and respected workers on such a day, and of course, make plans for the future – in order to continue to actively promote our production, to stimulate specialists who know how to make high-quality products. Our country can do it today.”

According to Yuri Senko, more than 24 thousand primary organisations (cells) are involved in the trade union movement of Belarus. These are employees of small enterprises and large factories. For example, the agro-industrial complex today unites more than 400 thousand specialists from the field of agriculture.
