Belarus continues to investigate cases against officials from Poland, Lithuania and Latvia

The investigation of crimes against humanity continues, new facts of brutality and violence on the EU border are recorded weekly, sb.by reports with reference to Belarus’ Investigative Committee

It is noted that, over the past couple of years, the EU authorities have been vividly demonstrating to the world community the ideas of racial superiority and chauvinism towards refugees who are trying to realise their right to a peaceful and calm life. Violence, murders, robberies and torture are becoming an integral part of the algorithm of border control at the Lithuanian, Latvian and Polish checkpoints. Repeated acts of brutality and armed displacement have been approved by pseudo-democratic countries and granted ‘a seal of excellence’ – giving rise to impunity for criminals and legal nihilism at the international level.

At the moment, Belarus’ Investigative Committee is investigating three criminal cases against officials of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.

"The victims in the criminal case against Polish officials are 166 citizens of foreign countries who were in transit through Belarus to the countries of the European Union, of whom 11 people died, and the rest received injuries of varying severity. Thirty-eight victims were recorded in the direction of Latvia, of which 16 people died at the hands of foreign mercenaries. The actions of the Lithuanian side have destroyed the fate of 36 people, and twelve of them died when crossing the border," the source added.

Most victims are from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, India, Syria and the states of the African continent. Citizenship is determined on the basis of the documents that refugees have with them, as well as the testimony of witnesses, information from mobile devices and, in rare cases, by conducting a medical and forensic examination and identifying a genotype related to a particular race.

For example, on April 24th, Belarusian border guards found an Afghan citizen with bodily injuries in the Verkhnedvinsk District. The man was taken to a health facility and provided medical care. The next day, border guards found the body of a foreign woman in the same area without signs of life. Documents and personal belongings were missing.

As investigative practice shows, when bodies are found in close proximity to the state border of these countries, there are traces at the scene indicating dragging, and the presence of bodies of foreigners near the gates intended for animal migration indicates that they are simply thrown from adjacent territories.

Currently, the actions of officials of the Republics of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, depending on the nature of the crimes committed, are qualified in the criminal case under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Belarus: Part 2 of Article 123 (propaganda of war), Article 128 (crimes against the safety of humanity), Part 3 of Article147 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm), Part 3 of Article 159 (leaving in danger), and Part 1 of Article 139 (murder).

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee is conducting a wide range of investigative and procedural actions aimed at identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice as prescribed by law. All new facts are given a fundamental legal assessment.
