Belarus’ approaches to regional and international security voiced

Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei has taken part in a Joint Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Ministers of Defence and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation in Dushanbe, Tajikistan – as informed by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service

The parties exchanged views on the military-political situation in the CSTO collective security regions, also discussing the situation in Afghanistan in the context of challenges and threats that arise for the CSTO member states after a hasty withdrawal of the western coalition troops and the transfer of power in this country.

As reported by Belarus’ Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Makei informed on the development of the situation in the European region, also outlining Belarus' approaches to topical issues of regional and international security. He drew attention to the aggravation of a systemic crisis of international relations, deepening of political instability, as well as growing contradictions and military-political confrontation between the main centres of power. The Foreign Minister expressed concern about the continuing degradation of international instruments in the field of arms control, confidence and security building measures.
